The Fern & Anchor

I visited Fern and Anchor Cafe in Lake Illawarra and it’s an easy five-star experience from the moment you walk in. It might look like a small, cosy café from the front, but once you step through to the rear outdoor area, it opens up into a warm, comfortable space that’s perfect for breakfast or lunch. The coffee is smooth, the atmosphere is relaxed, and the whole place has a homely charm that makes you want to stay a bit longer. But what really stood out was the service. The team is incredibly laid-back, welcoming, and polite. When my coffee was ready, even the chef came out personally to hand it over and say thank you — that’s something you don’t see every day. Small gestures, big impact. A wonderful little spot with genuine hospitality. Highly recommended.

Best brekkie burger I have ever eaten - so good I forgot to take a picture until I was half way through it!! The avocado, hashbrown and relish were AMAZING additions to the burger!! Definitely a find and the coffees were great along with the friendly welcome from the staff with our dog! The back garden was a surprise oasis and A perfect stopover 🐾🙌🏻

Hidden gem with great vibes and even better staff Loved the atmosphere in here — the decor inside is really well done, gives it a great character. Staff were friendly and genuinely helpful when we asked for local recommendations, which you don’t always get. The crushed protein coffee drink was amazing too! Would definitely come back.

What a find 👓. The food was fresh, simple, and done really well — generous portions and very reasonably priced for the quality. No overcomplication, just good, honest flavours. The coffee was excellent too. Friendly, efficient service that made the whole experience even better.

This is such a great local staple cafe in Lake Illawarra, we need more shops like this in the strip, operated by caring locals. They have created such a welcoming, comfortable, drop in for a take away, or long brunch or lunch. Coffe is spot on, food delicious, but honestly. It’s just a vibe. You will understand when you go.
